"The Big One"

Every child has at least one. You know, the blowout that defies all reason. So far, with Isaac,we have been very lucky in the messy poo department. While he generally blesses me with 6-10 dirty diapers a day, they are usually well contained.

I guess I should have expected it. After so many children, one would think this would no longer surprise me, and yet I found myself in awe this morning over how much mess a tiny three month old human being can make!

This was "The Big One." The kind that makes you question your ability to be a rational person. A "maybe I'll just throw these sheets away" kind of mess.

All in all the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been. I could have been out and about, or been about to leave for something important, or worse, it could have been my husband in charge of cleaning up (not his specialty). In the end, it only took 30 minutes to take care of all of it. That included cleaning the sheets and the bed; bathing and redressing Isaac, I decided to throw his outfit in the trash; cleaning and redressing myself; and, for good measure, time enough for yelling at my other children to please keep Jonathan downstairs and out of my way!

All is well now. We had lunch, the kids played outside in the snow (more mess to clean up), and now my sister is on the way over to drop off three of her kiddos to play while she takes the fourth to a not so fun appointment. I'm hoping she will stay and chat for a bit when she returns.

In all of it, I am reminded that I am not always in control.
